Welcome to Brigantia #1

Brigantia entrance, past falls

Brigantia is my home in Inworldz.  Let me introduce you to Brigantia with a series of mini-tours--it is a world with many layers, so don't be fooled by first appearances.  To get the full picture, you will need to peel back the layers and do some serious exploration.  Sail the Sea of Elemental Myst to the front docks at Brigantia, and prepare to get a bit wet, because you will need to walk under a waterfall to enter the isle.

Ceridwen's Cauldron Tavern in Brigantia

Once under the fall, follow the path to Ballybrack Village, where you will find Ceridwen's Cauldron Tavern.  This is a cozy spot where you can have a good meal (a must if you are wearing a meter) or just relax and visit.  The locals are friendly, so just strike up a conversation.

If you are looking for "work" to earn some "coins" for your pouch, there's always a need for a good cook or barmaid at the tavern.  Be careful not to catch your sleeves on fire!

After eating, head on up the path across the bridge, where you will find the Smithy, Mill, and a local Market.  You can pick up some local products such as Brigantian Elven Wine, olive oil, candles, pottery, and cheese.  Or warm up by the the hearth and have a game of chess.

(Hint:  There is a "Self-Guided Tour" notecard available at the Brigantia Welcome Center that will lead you through the main areas, and there are signposts throughout the sim.  At the Welcome Center, you can pick up a free Unity Meter and Pouch too--not required, but they will make your visit more interesting.  Just "wear" them and you're good to go for a visit.  The Welcome Center also has lots of helpful displays with instructions on how to participate in various interactive roleplay activities on the sims.)

Skating Away, Part 2

Rowan Quirk hits the ice!
Here are some more photos of our recent ice skating party at Brigantia.  The ice rink is still there, and you are welcome to drop in and have a skate.  There are free skates for men and women, courtesy of Matahari.  If you don't feel like skating, you can grab a snowball meter and have a snowball fight, you can build a snowman or make a snow angel, have a little smooch under the mistletoe--why save it for the holidays!  And when you get cold and hungry, you can warm yourself by the fire, or have a snack at the snack shack.

Skating Away...

Whee!  This is me shooshing across the ice!

One of my favorite virtual winter pastimes is ice skating, so I built us an ice rink above Brigantia.  I'm still working on the scripting with help from my friend Christine Nyn, but it's quite usable.  My friends and I recently had an ice skating party, and I just wanted to post a few pics.  I do not claim to be a photographer, and these folks were really moving, so no criticism!   hehe.

**More about Brigantia and Oldwyck later!

I'm wearing:
Dress: Elsa from Chez Fayre:  http://places.inworldz.com/Mo%20Neamh%20Bheag/53/132/1001
I saw a photo of Fayre wearing this lovely dress on FB, and I just had to contact here and ask where I could buy one!  It's a beautiful icy blue, with sequins on the bodice--perfect for ice skating.
Hair:  Dina from Emo-tions:  http://places.inworldz.com/Bella/42/46/1102
This is one of my absolute favorite hairs from SL, and I was delighted to find it in IW.  Be sure to stop by and buy something, because we want to encourage designers to bring more nice products to IW.  Thanks Emo-tions!  More PLEASE!
Skates:  Ice Queen Skates from Matahari:  http://places.inworldz.com/Matahari%20Style/247/155/22
Tanya Matahari also provided the free skates at the rink--Thanks Tanya!
Jewelry:  Snow Queen tiara and Sylvain earrings from ELEMENTAL JEWELRY, Inworldz mainshop:  http://places.inworldz.com/Brigantia/101/118/1302
This is my new shop in Inworldz.  It's not full yet, like the shop in SL, but I'm working on it!  Check out my old blog to see what's coming:  http://www.elementaljewelry.blogspot.com/
Skin & Eyes:  Valeries3 skin from Pulse skins:  http://places.inworldz.com/Twisted%20Bliss%20II/172/171/35
Pulse has one of the nicest lines of skins in Inworldz, for both men and women.  They also have good eyes.  Although you can't see them here, I'm wearing the Pulse Tomorrow #1 eyes.

Sorry, I can't provide information on what everyone else is wearing.

New Year, New Blog

I have never been one to make resolutions for the new year.  This year I will, instead, begin a new blog. I've blogged before, but I eventually allowed it to become a job, a chore.  This time around, I will blog for pure enjoyment--and that is as close to a resolution as I'm going to get.

In about 2008, I was introduced to virtual reality.  Now to someone who had not grown up with a computer and had never even played video games, the concept was a bit...ridiculous.  Why would anyone waste money on such...nothingness.  None-the-less, I was presented with an avatar and challenged to figure out what to do with her.  And, well...

I discovered that for a one time Barbie doll enthusiast, sprucing up an avatar was great fun.  I learned about skins, shapes, hair, animation overrides, and clothes-- oh, the clothes!  The next challenge was to find something to do.  Now, that took a bit more effort.  But, I found that there were virtual clubs where I could listen to DJ's or actual live performers.  And I could dance!  I found that there were  artists creating beautiful, inspirational art.  I met some great people, a community.  I found friends from all over the world, several of whom have remained my friends for years, both in world and out.

Challenge number three was to learn to build things so I could help build a university sim.  So, I learned to piece together prims, add textures, add scripts, etc.  Well, that was the hook, you see.  I will never be able to create those fabulous works of art--I am no artist.  And I doubt that I will ever build something that is flawless.  But, I sure to have great fun working at it.  And, in the process, have learned so much!

So, this new blog is going to be about...whatever I want to write about.  It's going to be about my virtual world.  I may write about medieval/fantasy role-play, building, scripting, the jewelry in my shop, virtual fashion, places I visit or shop, people I meet, art...

Read it if you like.  If you don't like it, don't read it.  It's just for fun.
